Description PRIMARY PURPOSE: To lead the efforts to commercialize intellectual property arising from the College of Veterinary Medicine & other life science research programs. Undertake a range of activities related to the receipt/analysis/statutory protection/transfer of life sciences/veterinary medical/other life sciences research to third parties.
NATURE OF WORK: Reporting to the Managing Director of the ILO, this position provides leadership/direction/supervision to a large group of University researchers & will contribute in multiple areas of activity within the scope of the office. Activities include: the technical review/market identification/financial analyses of commercial opportunities; promotion of new technologies to commercial enterprises; facilitation and coordination of patenting; negotiating and monitoring of agreements involving intellectual property rights; and the establishment and maintenance of a close professional relationship with faculty/staff/students/industry/the community. This is a highly visible position within the ILO that requires the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
ACCOUNTABILITIES: ? Provide effective leadership to an ILO Technology Transfer Team. ? Assist in developing and monitoring budgets and strategic plans for the ILO. ? Manage the commercialization of new technologies by making sound investment and patenting decisions and negotiating and monitoring license and option agreements. ? Promote U of S research capabilities in dealings with industry partners. ? Organize and deliver an education program on technology and intellectual property protection and commercialization to faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders. ? Perform annual performance reviews and salary administration of direct reports. ? Contribute to the development of ILO intellectual property protection and commercialization policies and procedures. ? Maintain thorough documentation, reporting of work will be required. |
